Background
Project Centre worked with the London Borough of Haringey to develop a construction logistics plan (CLP). CLPs involve the active monitoring of construction contractor compliance.
We implemented the plan and designed effective measures to mitigate the impact of major construction works on local residents and businesses.
Process
Our expert team developed an overarching Construction Logistics Plan (CLP) for a large-scale regeneration programme. The programme included a number of complex construction schemes operating in close proximity to each other.
The plan contains a set of key measures that all contractors must adhere to to minimize their work’s impact on the local community. As part of these works we undertook:
- Ensuring site compliance with safety and environmental standards
- Re-timing of heavy goods vehicle (HGVs) deliveries outside of peak periods
- Strict management of deliveries to sites according to designated booking slots to avoid congestion
- Coordinating site logistics and traffic between construction schemes and public realms
- Implementing regular ongoing patrols of sites to ensure these meet the requirements set by Haringey, Transport for London and construction schemes’ safety regulations
- Working closely with the engagement team to provide online and face-to-face communication strategies with local residents and businesses
Impact
The CLP monitoring team regularly checks sites compliance. This ensures our site traffic marshals are accredited to operate on the highway and with the contractors to mitigate problems.
We have implemented a policy of no idling of HGVs on the highway and we designed the use of on-site and off-site holding areas to take HGVs off the road for the loading and unloading of materials.
These measures have now become standardised. These are set to largely reduce the repercussion of construction schemes on the community and the environment.
Our client in Haringey Council commented: “Project Centre provided excellent communication on the CLP’s progress and updates. We’ve had a great experience working with Associate Director Mark Thirkell and the team, as they managed clear communications to us and to other external stakeholders”
