Background
Project Centre worked with Kent County Council to undertake several principal bridge inspections. We carried out all planning and management of access requirements as well as stakeholders liaison when necessary.
The key challenges of this project are planning works in extremely confined spaces, whilst coordinating the steps with such a large amount of stakeholders and keeping the project within the budget.
Process
Our structures team was responsible for planning all aspects of the bridge inspections, including the management of contractors and stakeholders to ensure access consent. We helped with:
- Reporting risk assessment and method statements to identify high- risk areas prior to the inspection
- Conducting site investigations, feasibility and option studies
- Identifying any post-tensioned risk due to the construction type, condition and potential failure
- Reporting the levels of risk for the structure
- Keeping constant communication with our clients to support them with improvements and maintenance of structures for future project
Impact
Project Centre completed the work to a high degree of quality, showing a wide range of technical skills to deliver the required bridge inspections and post-tension risk reviews. We designed strategies to include the use of electric vehicles for the inspections, reducing the carbon footprint of the works.
We are now looking to include locator fobs and tablets for greater health and safety awareness and for more efficient, onsite reporting. This is set to largely reduce the risks associated with carrying out inspections in confined spaces.
