The London Design Awards announced Project Centre as Silver Winners for both “reshaping Portland Road” and “designing flood alleviation schemes in South Chingford” in the Public Landscape and Water-Wise Landscape category!
By spotlighting the brightest minds and most extraordinary projects in the design industry, this competition stands as a testament to the remarkable teams that shape the world through exceptional design contributions.

South Chingford
The scheme not only addressed the surface water flooding issue, but it also contributed to several United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include:
- SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being)
- SDG 4 (quality Education)
- SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation)
- SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and communities)
- SDG 13 (Climate Action)
- SDG 15 (Life on Land)
The alleviation schemes in Memorial Park and Larkswood Park provide a combined flood attenuation of over 5000m3. The Rolls Sports Ground’s scheme involved the extension of an existing flood wall alongside a stream. By combining this extension with the creation of two basins, we provided additional storage of approximately 5500m3.
It also showed a strong commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion practices by keeping the local community engaged throughout the design process.
Our team also organised a special community planting day, which brought together residents and families from diverse backgrounds, promoting a sense of ownership and community involvement.
Portland Road
Worthing Borough Council and West Sussex County Council identified Portland Road as a pain point in the area. The town’s welcoming community and seaside context contrasted with the overlooked feel of Portland Road’s public realm. The street reflected poor traffic management, grey areas, and anti-social behaviour.
Our scheme placed Portland Road as the new local benchmark for the health and attractiveness of urban places. We merged inclusive design with environmental benefits.
Project Centre transformed Portland Road through placemaking, creating an urban space where people want to live in.
The success of this project delivery is proof of how well our project team managed the design elements but also the engagement with the clients and stakeholders.
