Background – The Council’s request
The London Borough of Lambeth commissioned us to design temporary segregated cycle lanes on Rosendale Road to provide a safe and Local Transport Note 1/20 compliant space for cyclists without losing any on-street parking.
The timeframe for the project requirements was very tight. To meet the deadline, Project Centre organised resources prior to receiving all available data from the client and some of the tasks were started early, such as early engagement and high-level optioneering. In addition to that, our expert team kept in constant communication with the client and stakeholders, allowing us to address key issues and resolve these promptly.
How did we design the cycle lanes infrastructure?
We designed the cycle lanes infrastructure and achieved the project objectives by:
- Identifying key issues and constraints at an early stage
- Reporting all our findings to the client
- Regularly reviewing designs with the client as well as our stakeholders
- Delivering drawings upon recent experience and good practice on similar projects
- Engaging with community and partners to deliver suitable and safe cycling lanes
The outcome
The team completed the cycle lane design as well as the overall project in a very short timescale. Our proposal was well received as it needed to comply with the constraints and the detailed design requirements. We are currently working with the client to deliver the next section of the route.
“The Project Centre team were very professional and responsive. I was very happy with the quality of the cycle lane design as well as the work delivered.”
