The Centre for Social Justice recently held an event for the Enforcement Conduct Board, the independent oversight body for enforcement. Justice Minister the Lord Wolfson of Tredegar QC spoke at the event and welcomed the landmark reform achieved through close collaboration between the enforcement industry and the debt advice sector, chaired by the Centre for Social Justice with the support of Marston Holdings.
Catherine Brown, former head of the Food Standards Agency, has been announced as the inaugural Chair. The recruitment process for non-executive directors is underway.
The Chair and the non-executive directors will work together to:
• raise standards
• improve accountability
• adjudicate complaints
• recognise vulnerability
• achieve fairness
Our Chief Executive was invited to speak in recognition of Marston Holdings’ key role in facilitating the discussions between the enforcement industry and debt advice sector by providing sponsorship of the Centre for Social Justice’s research and roundtable discussions.
Marston’s Chief Executive commented:
“I am grateful to Lord Wolfson and the Ministry of Justice, for understanding and supporting this collaborative effort between the advice sector and the industry.
I would also like to thank the Taking Control campaign members for that collaboration, which has enabled this ground-breaking initiative to come into being.
We are absolutely committed to maintaining this collaboration as we move forward.”
Other panel members included David Parkin, Deputy Director of Civil Justice at the Ministry of Justice; Joanna Elson, Chief Executive of Money Advice Trust; Peter Tutton, Head of Policy at StepChange; and Carole Kenney, President of the Civil Enforcement Association (CIVEA).
