A spotlight on: Tina Glover talks about her career journey

In the dynamic world of the built environment, where innovation and dedication are key to progress, Tina Glover stands out as a beacon of excellence. With over 29 years of experience, she has consistently demonstrated her expertise, leadership and commitment to making a positive impact.

Tina was recently recognised as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering by the Women in Engineering Society, reflecting her remarkable impact on the engineering sector! We spent some time with her, to celebrate her achievements and understand a bit more about her career journey, highlighting the most impactful moments.

Tina’s journey in the built environment began with a notable 23-year tenure at Bury Council. As the Group Leader of traffic management, transportation, parking services and road safety, she successfully delivered numerous multi-disciplinary projects.

Specifically, she was responsible for managing a £3million parking enforcement contract, which included the challenging implementation of controlled parking zones for over 1,200 properties. Her strategic oversight extended to various complex highways, parking and transportation interventions, showcasing her ability to handle large-scale, multifaceted projects.

In 2021, Tina joined Project Centre as a Principal Engineer, quickly rising through the ranks to become Associate Director and now Technical Director. Her rapid progression within the company is testament to her expertise and leadership skills.

Over the past three years, Tina has been instrumental in supporting local authorities across the country, such as Manchester City Council, St Helens Borough Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, to implement moving traffic enforcement and sustainable transport schemes. She pioneered a site selection approach by developing a weight-scoring matrix, based on non-monetary benefits and focusing on criteria such as traffic flows, key safety indicators (KSIs), walking, cycling, public transport routes and proximity to schools. Her forward-thinking approach has set new standards in our traffic management and enforcement team.

Beyond her technical achievements, Tina is deeply committed to mentoring and developing the next generation of engineers. She is an active participant in the British Parking Association’s mentorship programme and serves on the advisory group of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, where she authors technical papers addressing challenges and public realm improvements for vulnerable road users.

Tina’s dedication to promoting engineering as a career choice is evident in her role as a STEM Ambassador. She regularly engages with school children, sharing her career journey and highlighting the diverse opportunities within the industry. Her contribution is helping to shape the future of engineering. In Project Centre, she also manages and mentors our younger colleagues, pushing them through to get higher qualifications.

As an active member of Project Centre’s Women’s Learning and Development Network, Tina plays a crucial role in empowering and promoting women within our business. She advocates for progressive policies, including improved maternity and flexible working arrangements, and helped organise activities that celebrate and support female employees.

Tina’s outstanding contributions have not gone unnoticed. She has been nominated for several prestigious awards, including “Best Woman Project Manager” at the Women in Construction and Engineering Awards and “Inspirational Woman in Parking” at the British Parking Awards.

After winning the Top 50 Women in Engineering Society, Tina attended the ceremony in London, recognising and celebrating her efforts in the industry. The above photos are from the Awards ceremony, and show Tina talking to the CEO of the Charered Insitute of Highways and Transportation about the work we’ve done around building a bespoke matrix prioritisation tool for prioritising enforcement sites based on non monetary criterion.

In 2021, she won “Best Project Manager” at our annual staff awards. Tina was voted for by her peers, who recognised her efforts in leading multi-disciplinary teams and complex projects.

Tina Glover is a thought leader in the built environment. Her extensive experience, innovative thinking and commitment to mentorship and advocacy make her a role model for aspiring engineers.

Tina’s recent recognition as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering is a well-deserved honour. It reflects her remarkable impact on the engineering sector!
