The London Borough of Haringey commissioned us to design a proposal for the
Park View Road Underpass. The main concerns were related to the accessibility and safety of the
underpass, and seasonal flooding experienced in this area.
A complex ownership issues – part of the area is managed by TfL, part by Network Rail and part by LBHa – represented an additional challenge for the project whose main objectives were:
- Creating a safer, more accessible and attractive access to the underpass by replacing the
retaining wall with a set of steps - Rationalising the interaction between pedestrians and cyclists and improving wayfinding
- Enhancing the lighting conditions in the underpass

Working closely from a very early stage with local artist Albert Clegg of Budstudio, Project
Centre’s multi-disciplinary team was able to create an attractive and inviting space where the
aesthetic and the function co-exist drawing people to this new outdoor art destination in Haringey.
Providing clear paths for all users through the use of different materials and colours, the proposal
has re-established Park View Road as a key pedestrian and cycling link to the nearby Marshes.
The addition of new planting beds helps to soften the full brick environment, greatly improving
biodiversity
