Background
Project Centre is providing a public realm masterplan for Tottenham Hale in the London Borough of Haringey, to improve the streets and the urban space for existing and future residents.
Tottenham Hale is part of the Lee Valley Opportunity Area with great transport connections and significant assets close by. However, the area is also undergoing significant change, with multiple new residential buildings in construction and a hostile highway environment.
Our masterplan focuses on creating a sense of identity for the local community, with legible wayfinding, a hierarchy of routes and the promotion of a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly environment. Sustainable drainage systems and rain gardens aid place-making and biodiversity in what is a highly urban context, while providing all important flood management for the new development.
Process
Our multidisciplinary team collaboratively worked to:
- Identifying key challenges such as new developments, transport links and movement patterns
- Providing a relaxing environment for users with pocket parks, seating and planting
- Activating the area by diversifying and attracting new uses and activities
- Creating a pedestrian and cyclist friendly environment
- Creating a clean streetscape to help wayfinding and visibility for pedestrians. Wayfinding points will double at the outskirts of the scheme to aid pedestrian movement
The impact of our masterplan
The council approved our masterplan with fantastic feedback and appreciation from the client. The construction date is yet to be confirmed with contractors.
