Backgroung
Project Centre worked in partnership with the London borough of Tower Hamlets to create liveable neighbourhoods for their community.
Our scheme encouraged new ways of transportation and reduced through traffic, lowering air pollution and CO2 emissions. By listening to the residents concerns, we designed changes to make active travel a natural choice for people.
The improved air quality and green spaces generated a residential community feel for the people.
Process
One of the keys to our Liveable Neighbourhood scheme’s success is understanding the importance of the community’s needs and concerns.
Our engagement team extensively worked with residents and stakeholders to understand their concerns. We prepared them for a positive behaviour change, by:
- Meeting with key stakeholder groups
- Designing workshops with local schools, residents, and cyclists
- Organising dace-to-face and online conversations with businesses
- Promoting discussions on feedback and potential improvements
- Developing constant communication strategies to keep residents informed at every step of the process
Our design and traffic team worked seamlessly to:
- Audit road safety and ensure the proposals were fit for purpose
- Liaise with stakeholders to obtain the cost of any necessary utility diversions
- Provide concept designs and produce drawings
- Upgrade minor road entries and only allowing through access for pedestrians and cyclist
- Deliver detailed designs and sustainable drainage designs
- Manage all the site works and clearance
Outcome
The concept designs for the Liveable Neighbourhood scheme received positive recognition and approval from the Council in November 2020. The project construction started in January 2021 and finished in April 2021.
The outcomes of a scheme are usually measured over a five year timescale. However, initial findings indicates that our Liveable Neighbourhood is largely reducing rat-running on residential streets, lowering C02 emissions and overall improving the health and safety of the community.
