Technical Director Chris Durban presented “Visions for Northolt”, one of the Levelling Up schemes funded in Round 1, at the Transport Smart Class (London). The scheme concept originates from the April 2015 ‘Better Streets for Northolt’ Corridor 11 Study and a further study for Corridor 11 published in December 2020 that focussed on Mandeville Road and Village Green.
In 2019, cars were dominating the Northolt scene, with just three percent of the local community travelling by bicycle. Northolt has historically suffered from a lack of investment, which impacted the status of its infrastructure.
Ealing Council is developing a high-impact active travel plan that meets place-based objectives for Northolt. Through improving connectivity to services, supporting healthier and greener travel, and increasing local pride.
Presenting the Levelling Up scheme
Chris’ presentation explored the data we used to influence our design process. Firstly, the engagement team reached the community by promoting a diverse and inclusive communication strategy. We collected the data through surveys, letters, online pages and face to face conversation.
Our multidisciplinary team then moved on to collect air quality data, cycle, traffic and parking data, and public transport accessibility data. We’re registering all the results before, during, and after the project delivery to measure the impact of our Levelling Up scheme.
The project reaches across the local and strategic network (TLRN). Chris concluded his presentation by detailing the delivery structure. We kept constant communication with the council during the whole project, to implement any changes on time and within budget.

Our team supported councils with their Round 1 funding applications. Some of our successful bids over both rounds include Visions for Northolt, Thriving Gainsborough and Lewisham Town Centre. We can’t wait to keep supporting our clients through the development of new Levelling Up designs.
