Nottingham City Council awarded us a new contract!
Nottingham City Council appointed us to provide design services in support of three active travel schemes. The project was jointly funded by the council and the European Regional Development Fund. The schemes include measures to upgrade the existing cycling infrastructure, and improve safety for new and regular cyclists alike.
The council proposed approximately 2km of improvements, ranging from new shared footway / cycleways, enhanced crossings, traffic calming features. The plan included the improvement of a walking and cycling route which created a link from a residential area to the north of the city.
We designed an addition to the River Leen route enabling cyclists to travel mainly off road. From the Bobbers Mill area to the Jubilee student campus with its residential blocks, shops and cafes, and crossings. Our design will enhance both on-route and in the campus area, where we proposed a parallel crossing.
Our team will make Improvements to the signing of all three routes, and connections to local attractions such as Bulwell town centre and the riverside.
Active travel schemes aim to generate greater use of healthier transport, with a focus on walking and cycling. We will assist the Council in engaging with stakeholders to ensure the route designs benefit from local knowledge. The schemes must benefit the community in a way that is long lasting as well as cost effective.
Our multi-disciplinary team based in the Manchester office is hard at work developing the layouts, utilising the expertise of our Highways and Traffic Engineering professionals.
