Early last month we held a networking day, which brought together all our graduates and apprentices from around the country to network and learn more about the opportunities available at Project Centre.
Ice breakers
At the start of the day graduates and apprentices had to build a tower of spaghetti. The winning group utilised maths and a strong understanding of structures to build a spaghetti tower that was over 30 cm and could stand unsupported.
“The event gave me a platform to share my ideas and ask more questions. I really enjoyed socialising and networking with the other grads from different teams. I saw how everyone makes an impact and this is something which motivates me to put my best forward.”
Sandra Ampong, Graduate Highways Engineer
Hear from our directors
Afterwards grads were introduced to the different disciplines at Project Centre. The directors of each discipline explained what the grads could expect to learn, the types of projects they will be working on and the chartership they will be supported to attain. Finally grads and apprentices presented their ideas and questions to the Senior leadership Team.
“The day was a great way for me to meet other apprentices and grads and learn about the different roles everyone is working in. It helped me see how broad Project Centre is and the many opportunities there are available to me. It was fun and educational. Thank you to all involved in arranging the day.”
Pavandeep Thind, Business Support Apprentice
Project Centre has cultivated an environment that nurtures new talent and helps graduates and apprentices grow in their fields. Many apprentices and graduates found the networking day extremely helpful, and they made new connections in other disciplines.
Project Centre Graduate programme – launching 2023
Project Centre’s graduate programme will be launched in Spring 2023. It will introduce university graduates to the civil engineering, design and transport planning industry. over the course of three years, the programme will help them to learn key skills and develop their knowledge.
Those on the programme will be able rotate between our many disciplines. The rotation period is for the first year of the programme. This expose graduates to different environments where they can learn a range of skills. At the end of the programme, graduates will have a firm understanding of the business, disciplines, and industry.
What graduates on the programme learn
The programme will equip graduates with crucial skills such as technical writing, assessing designs and using technical programs like AutoCAD. Moreover, they will receive a mentor to guide them along their career path.
In addition, graduates will be given support with entering Institutes such as:
- Institute of Civil Engineering
- Urban Design Group
- Institute of Highway Engineers
- Chartered institute of Highways and Transportation (CIHT)
- Institute of Lighting Professionals
Oliva Reed, who was previously on the programme, is now a Transport Planner at Project Centre. She commented that “going on the graduate programme was a great experience for me. Not only was I networking with other graduates, I was learning more from experiences and learning from experts in engineering. My mentor helped me understand how I can bring my best forward and what skills I need to progress in my field.”
We will be starting our 2023 graduate recruitment in Spring.
