Edinburgh Council’s Transport and Environment Committee approved a Strategic Review of parking that would look at parking pressures across the area. The review identified several areas across the City to be developed across four phases. To combat the rising parking demands, the Council proposed new elements to the current parking control operations. The design will benefit residents and businesses who work in the areas outside existing parking zones, close to the centre.
That’s where Project Centre became involved. The Council appointed us to undertake a consultation on the key elements of the proposals in advance of the formal advertising of a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). These key elements include the introduction of Permit Holder Parking, Shared Use Parking, Pay & Display, Double and Single Yellow Lines Restrictions.
The community had the opportunity to view, comment and advise on the council’s proposals. The consultation aimed to input any amendments prior to finalising the design.
The stakeholder engagement included leafletting of all areas. We also held multiple drop-in sessions for each area with residents, businesses and stakeholder discussions about the proposals. Engagement included a developed webpage with an interactive map and online survey. This was to provide a space to create content for people to view information and feedback their comments. For example, the interactive map allowed residents and businesses to pinpoint specific areas of Edinburgh they felt needed improvement the most.
We maintained the logistics of drop-in sessions and the materials required. Our team arranged all printing of large-scale drawings in Edinburgh as transportation of plans was not feasible. We also managed multiple pick-ups and drop-offs by couriers and display board companies. Good communication was key to the success of the consultation and we were able to preserve this throughout.
