Our fantastic partnership with Durham County Council has continued to be recognised by the British Parking Awards. Due to our win for the Outstanding Car Park Operator of the Year Award.
The award covers parking providers who are creating a positive experience for motorists. The prize recognises work done to create easy-to-understand, non-confrontational and person-centric services.
The award submission focused on the successful operation, management and development of the largest car parks within Durham. Such as, Belmont, Howlands and Sniperley. Whilst Durham manage the car parks, NSL continues to support the daily operations of them.
The Durham Park and Ride service that NSL operates, runs across three sites. This provides motorists with over 1,400 parking bays, 53 disabled bays. Plus, seven electric charging points, 11 secure cycle stores and 14 motorhome bays. NSL also provide support on electric vehicle charging bays and car park night duties which includes a cleaning service and damage checks as well as providing sign and line maintenance.
The majority of park and ride customers surveyed are female, with older age groups using the service more frequently than younger groups. A small proportion of users are disabled – all sites are DDA compliant and have specialist welfare facilities for disabled customers. Nearly half of customers use the park and ride for commuting, a third for shopping and the rest for tourism and ad-hoc visits. About 50% of users make use of the park and ride 3-6 times a week.
NSL support Durham County Council with the operation of:
- Park and ride scheme
- Overnight motorhome bays at Belmont car park
- Electric vehicle charging bays
- Coach parking and toilet drop facility
- Civil Enforcement Officer patrols
We look forward to continuing to work with Durham on the development of their sites across the county.
