The challenge
Late on a Friday afternoon, we received an urgent instruction to remove an unauthorised
encampment consisting of six caravans. The situation was volatile, with intel indicating one arrest
had already been made and verbal threats issued. The main challenge was to swiftly and safely
remove the encampment while ensuring the safety of our agents and complying with legal
protocols.
Our solution
Within one hour of receiving the instruction, an Enforcement Agent was dispatched to issue a
warning to the encampment. Upon arrival, the agent encountered significant verbal threats and
promptly called the police for assistance. Our Enforcement Manager collaborated closely with the
police, leveraging Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act (CJPOA) to facilitate the
immediate removal of the encampment. This strategic coordination enabled the encampment to
be moved by 9:00pm the same day.
The impact
The rapid and efficient response led to the successful removal of the unauthorised encampment
within hours of the initial instruction. By working closely with law enforcement and using legal
provisions effectively, we ensured the safety of our agents and the public. The quick resolution
minimised disruption and demonstrated our capability to handle high-pressure situations promptly
and professionally.
