We are thrilled to announce that our collaboration with NSL, Project Centre and The City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) has won the British Parking Awards in the Parking Partnerships category and is now shortlisted for the CiTTi Awards, Transport Inclusivity and Accessibility category!
Our project represents a significant leap in tackling pavement parking through innovative and collaborative efforts. Following the Transport Scotland Act (2019), which introduced the UK’s first pavement parking ban, we joined forces to develop a ground-breaking enforcement methodology. This approach aims to enhance road inclusivity and accessibility, with Edinburgh becoming the first Scottish city to implement this ban starting January 2024.
Project highlights:
- Collaborative effort: Our partnership, which includes Project Centre, NSL, and CEC, worked together to create a comprehensive road study and a Red/Amber/Green (RAG) categorisation system for pavement parking levels. This study assessed 5,185 roads and provided detailed recommendations for mitigation measures.
- Innovative methodology: We developed a robust methodology that minimises subjectivity and sets a standard for pavement parking assessments. This has been instrumental in identifying traffic management solutions tailored to each road segment.
- Measurable outcomes: Our approach has led to a database of affected roads, improved traffic management features, and enhanced public engagement through clear visual outputs. Early enforcement results show a positive trend in behavioural change, with a significant reduction in parking contraventions and public complaints.
Our partnership exemplifies the power of collaborative problem-solving in the parking sector. By combining expertise and resources, we have not only addressed a critical issue but also set a precedent for future projects.
Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication and hard work. We look forward to continuing our journey toward more inclusive and accessible roads!
