Background
The London Borough of Haringey appointed us to undertake the feasibility study, investigations and design for strengthening of the existing highway retaining wall.
The problematic area included a 160m long and 2.5m high retaining wall adjacent to a busy bus route. The wall had an inadequate loading capacity and stability issues, which was imposing a strict weight limit to the access road.
The scope of services included:
- Options study and assessment
- Preliminary and detail designs
- Site construction support services
- Site investigations and surveys
Impact of our work
The Conservation Officer listedand incorporated historic railings that needed to be refurbished and reinstated and all materials and finishes had to have consent from. The Officer list ensured that we could protect the special architecture aspect.
Through assessment, we designed and reviewed the best proposal. We tied a new reinforced concrete wall skin to the existing wall face and we used an attractive brick facing..
“The structure looks great and lots of praise from locals and Councillors alike; a lot of energy went into ensuring all the little details are right.” London Borough of Haringey, January 2021.
